McCloud update

Publication date: 24/04/2020 12:03:39

The Government has confirmed that the McCloud judgment applies to all public service pension schemes. We must remind you that LGPS members don’t need to make an employment tribunal claim for the remedy to apply to them.

We're aware that some companies are actively encouraging members to register costly claims. However, this isn't necessary. If they qualify for protection it'll apply automatically. It's important your employees are made aware of this.

You can read more about McCloud and the ministerial statement made by Lord Agnew on the parliament website.

McCloud – reminder of action for employers

Any remedy is likely to involve recalculating member benefits. To do this, we'll need a full history of all part-time hour changes and service breaks for all members since 1 April 2014.

If you haven’t given us this information, we may be asking for this in the near future. Please don't destroy any of this data. If you've changed your payroll provider since 1 April 2014, you must make sure you still have access to this information. If you don’t, and haven’t already given it to us, let us know by emailing pensions@shropshire.gov.uk or calling 01743 252130.

All future hour changes for your employees must be sent to us through i-Connect. To tell us about any service breaks, you must fill in the correct employer form. Please visit our forms and guidance library.
