Covid-19 and your pension
The Covid-19 pandemic has meant we’ve changed the way we work. However, we’re doing everything we can to keep our service running smoothly for our members. We'll answer your emails as quickly as we can, and apologise for any delays while we deal with any urgent requests. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this difficult time.
Your firefighter pension is safe
You can be sure that your pension is unaffected by any stock market changes. Because the firefighter pension scheme is a defined benefit pension, it’s not linked to the stock market or performance of investments. Benefits are set out in law.
Contacting the team and returning documents
All face-to-face services including one-to-ones and drop-ins at the Shirehall have stopped for the time being. We've also limited access to post and printing facilities. To help us, please avoid returning forms, sending certificates and any original documents by post where possible. We'll accept electronic signatures, scanned copies of forms, and photocopies of certificates, as well as photos of forms and identification (if the images are clear and of good quality) by email. If we’ve asked for a signature to be witnessed, please follow government guidelines around social distancing and only ask someone to fill in this form when it’s safe. You can email your documents to firstname.lastname@example.org.
During this time, we hope you make full use of our online service: ‘My Pension Online’
If you haven’t done so already, you can register to view your pension benefits on the secure ‘My Pension Online’ area of our website. You'll need your email address and national insurance number to register. You can then view your pension record. Be sure to visit our ‘My Pension Online’ frequently asked questions page too.
