McCloud case update
In September 2019 we told you about recent updates to the ongoing court case known as the McCloud and Sergeant case. You can read more about this in our previous news post.
To recap, in December 2018, the Court of Appeal ruled that transitional protections introduced as part of the changes to the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme in 2015 were considered unlawful because of age discrimination. The Government asked for an appeal in June 2019, but this was denied by the Supreme Court.
Following the result of the employment tribunal, we aren’t yet in a position to tell members what this means for their benefits. We must wait for further information from the Home Office.
