Do you know how to process flexible retirements?
When you agree to a flexible retirement it's important that you do not automatically take the member out of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). Instead, you should continue to take the members contributions as you would do normally.
It's also important to remember that there may be a strain cost to you, as the employer. If you allow a member to flexibly retire before their normal pension age this must be in line with your discretions policy. You must ask us for a quote before you agree to a flexible retirement request.
If the member decides that they no longer want to be a part of the LGPS they must opt out to stop further contributions being taken. If the member decides that they want to opt out, this must be done from the day they flexibly retire.
