How to join
To be able to join the LGPS, you must be under 75 and work for an employer who offers the scheme.
If you start a job in which you're an ‘eligible member’ under auto enrolment law, you'll be brought into the scheme and contributions will be taken from your pay. However, if your contract of employment is for three months or less, you may not be automatically brought into the scheme. If this is the case and you want to join, you can complete a ‘new member form’.
On joining the LGPS, we'll set up a record for you and send you a letter confirming your membership. You should check your payslip every month to make sure that pension contributions are being taken.
If you're brought into the scheme and don’t want to stay in it, you can ‘opt out’. However, you can only fill in an opt out form once you've started your job. Visit the page opting out of the LGPS for more information.
